The Four Secrets to Escaping the Passive Therapy Trap in an Active Care World (GEN) – Sun Breakout 2-3
With audits becoming more common in the healthcare industry, it’s time we understood one of the biggest reasons chiropractors have become easy targets for insurance companies. In addition to a patient who never regains strength or endurance after an injury from long term use of passive therapies, this bill pattern causes the practice to have a past claims history that begs for a review. This is simply because new research shows the patient becomes dependent upon passive therapies causing the patient to use chiropractic services to control pain. During this course we will discuss how the insurance company profiles your practice and how through the utilization of active rehabilitation techniques, you can save your practice from the passive therapy trap. Only you can change your claims history and how your practice’s profile is viewed by the insurance companies.

“Subluxation” – The term “subluxation” is a widely adopted and appreciated diagnostic descriptor used in chiropractic medicine with roots from the profession’s foundation. However, “subluxation” has resisted being measured and quantified as a spinal lesion through research. The term subluxation will be debated from a neurological perspective as to its role in the practice of contemporary chiropractic. What is it, how does it work, can we rely on this term?

Plenary Session: Requirements of a Spine Care Super-Specialist – Sun Ballroom
Most patients seek the care of chiropractors for spinal problems. Patients expect their spine specialist to be aware of and to be able to discuss all treatments available to them, especially the research supporting their treatment approach.
The primary issues that patients with low back or neck pain want addressed are the risks and benefits of all treatment options for their problem. Thus, the approach to risk management for patients with low back or neck pain requires that patients gather sufficient information about risks and benefits for various interventions. Once this knowledge is obtained, patients can make informed decisions about the interventions that present the best risk/benefit profile. As a spine care super specialist, chiropractors are expected to rule out red flags, provide education, and effectively guide patients through the myriad of treatment choices, including treatments they offer, as well as the treatments offered by other practitioners.
The latest information about neck pain and low back pain has been published as proceedings of the Bone and Joint Decade Task Force on Neck Pain and Its Associated Disorders and as a special issue of The Spine Journal on Evidence Informed Management of Chronic Low Back Pain without Surgery. This symposium will discuss the highlights of these documents with emphasis on how chiropractors can use this information to provide better care for their patients.

“I join Americans across the country in mourning the death of Senator Edward M. Kennedy and extending my deepest condolences to the Kennedy family. The Kennedys are a part of my family’s political history. I vividly remember my parents’ joyous celebration when President Kennedy was elected in 1960. I was proud to serve as one of Senator Kennedy’s Kansas campaign co-chairs in 1980 and it was a tremendous honor to work with him throughout the course of my career.
“Senator Kennedy spent his career fighting to improve the health of the American people and extend services to those in need. His work touches all of us and almost every corner of the Department of Health and Human Services. Today, because of his work, senior citizens who would otherwise go hungry will receive meals. Millions of children across the country will have access to medical care and Head Start. And our nation is a fairer and more just place because of his tireless efforts to promote civil rights and end discrimination.”
“Ensuring that all Americans have access to quality, affordable health care was one of the causes of Senator Kennedy’s life and we will carry his mission forward. We will honor his incredible legacy of advocacy and accomplishment through our work. Senator Kennedy never let us forget our most important charge as public servants: representing the American people and giving voice to those who have been ignored or forgotten. We will always remember that lesson and his incredible service to our nation.”
