I was enjoying an article this morning in the Life University Leadership publication. It is heartening to see the progression of chiropractic around the world as we endeavor to share the “good news” of who we are and what we do.
Good intentions. Paving the way to better life and optimal wellness around the world!
I am sure most missionaries over the ages have felt the same way. Empowered with truth and good intentions we cross oceans to educate and train.
One of my favorite musical groups is and has been the Eagles. One of their songs is titled The Last Resort. It tells the story of missionaries to Hawaii. Paving over paradise in the course of their good intentions and missionary zeal.
So this is my question. Are we truly aware and respectful of cultures and traditions. Hopefully so and what I know about my alma mater and the individuals steering the international ship…I have great confidence that they are keeping these issues in mind as we attempt to integrate our western version of natural healing with the concepts, culture and consciousness of an ancient civilization struggling to conform to a changing world and a demanding populace.
How much have we had to change and re-direct our philosophy, and therefore practice, of chiropractic to integrate with the western mode of health care delivery? And by doing so…how far have we deviated from the original, vital and holistic intentions of the pioneers of our profession? Granted, times are a changin’…the world of today is a bit different from good ‘ole 1895…but how diluted and OK…bastardized have we become? In this world of ICD-10, EHR, outcome assessments and compromise…is our message of health salvation consistently pure enough to rationalize our potentially hubristic behavior as we convert the masses?
Just pondering here….would invite your comments….
Be well….and of course…let’s IN-JOY our journey…
