I just posted a link on my Face Book page commenting on a recent National Public Radio news item on Alzheimer’s titled “Hope remains”.

Alzheimer’s continues to be a devastating neurological blight on our aging population. No one can argue that. What is debated, to the detriment of those suffering from the disorder and also to those burdened with caring for them, is how to effectively deal with this “dis-ease”.

Patient’s with Alzheimer’s show a critical depletion of nitric oxide. Those of you who have followed my posts and other articles and books I’ve written over the past few years know that a primary focus of mine is the science of nitric oxide and the formulation of products designed to effectively deal with this deficit in a non-pharmaceutical manner.

This NPR story exemplifies the continued absence of serious attention to restoring necessary nitric oxide levels in conventional circles. This “hope” might indeed lie outside the realm of traditional pharmaceutical backed research and model of treatment.

This NIH abstract suggests that is a very important link to consider… http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15265275

Many excellent products, such as www.KyaniScience.com and my own product www.Acctrix.com , offer tremendous nutritional support options.

Yet so many people I talk to, as well as patient’s I consult with, immediately balk at the “high cost” of using these nutritional products on a regular basis. This link to the Alzheimer’s information site might put that in perspective a bit.

What is essential nutrition and supplementation worth to you and those you love and care about? Especially those in our family’s and circles of the older generation…those prone to such dis-eases such as Alzheimer’s and other, very possibly preventable through nutrition, conditions?

It hurts a bit whenever I hear this excuse…and I hear it often. The hurt is not so much due to the loss of a potential customer, but more that all my years of study, formulation and research is so summarily and quickly dismissed as too expensive…often when the person spends much more money on coffee, cigarettes, lotto tickets or other “necessities”.

I would be happy to provide you with more information regarding the benefits of restoring nitric oxide levels and other ways of assisting the preservation of nitric oxide levels such as antioxidant support, etc…

What is it worth to you? In my mind, and of course you might say I am a little biased, the cost of our products is quite low compared to the real cost of nitric oxide depletion and resulting disorders such as Alzheimer’s.

I am at your service,

IN-JOY your healthy life!

“Man is a mixture of desires that extend beyond his knowledge and often result in action conflicting with rationality.” – Charles A. Lindbergh

Stepping out beyond rational thinking is a risk that many of us hesitate to take. Risk implies moving outside the comfortable envelope of safety and herd mentality. Growth in spiritual, business and personal measures is necessarily accomplished out beyond the edge of assured security.

“A ship in the harbor is safe…but that is not what ships are built for.” – Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper

I have just finished a wonderful book, Manifesting Michelangelo, written by Joseph Pierce Farrell. The author quotes William Feather in saying “…conditions are never just right. People who delay action until all factors are favorable are the kind who do nothing.” Of course some folks have a deeper faculty for risk and adventure than others however I would take the risk to say that all of us can benefit from pushing the envelope of comfort. This may require a re-definition of our personal concepts of failure and success. Possibly even going so far as removing the label of failure from the equation.

“Every failure brings with it the seed of an equivalent success.” Napoleon Hill

Therefore if failure is more a necessary ingredient for life growth and not in reality the negative that our fear-mind interprets…it might be to our advantage to pursue risk, and the possibly result of failure, as a friend rather than a foe. Make a decision today to step through the veil of safety and security and risk failure. The reward of growth in retrospect I have always found to have been worth the temporary discomfort.

IN-JOY your “risky” path today!

I was exploring the beautiful trails and expanses of Pt. Defiance park near my home this past weekend when an interesting thing happened.

“Our life always expresses the result of our dominant thoughts.” – Soren Kierkegaard

My goal for the afternoon was to circumnavigate the park, a walk of about six or seven miles. For a stroll of this length I decided to take one of my favorite walking sticks, a slender maple shoot that I had cut a couple years ago. The smoothness of its shaft, its lightness…plus the fact that it came from a favorite place of mine…all contributed to the pleasure of this hiking instrument.

The only problem was that its smooth and worn end could not get a good purchase on hard surfaces such as sidewalks and pavement. Going up hill I noticed that it would slip, an irritating glitch in the joy of my journey. Perhaps I mused, I could find something to fasten to the tip to help with that?

I soon forgot this irritation as I entered the stately old growth forest of the park and felt the give and purchase of the path. My enjoyment grew as I felt my muscles and step quicken with the eagerness to explore this new expanse of immense trees and marine vistas.

As I neared the end of the loop I decided to branch off the main trail and head down a steeply descending path to the beach. There, with the tide low, I was able to navigate the gravel and sand while enjoying watching the fishing boats and other people I encountered. Just before I reached the concrete bulkhead of the more improved section of the park I looked down and noticed a spot of black in the beach gravel that seemed to not quite fit in. Bending down, I picked it up, brushed off the sand and found that I had discovered the rubber tip to a walking stick… and you guessed it…it fit the end of my walking stick perfectly!

At first I started to dismiss the serendipitous aspect of this find. But the more I thought about it, the more I was struck by the perfect synergy and coincidence of the event. Not two hours earlier I had “wished for” and created the thought of wanting to bring something into my life. As simple as this goal was…it came into reality quite quickly.

My spirits were lifted and the enjoyment of a “non-slipping” walking stick was the perfect end of my journey and a perfectly placed metaphor by Spirit into my life, mind and experience.

Seek and ye shall find…ask and it will be given to you. What a great reminder for this life journey of mine…and one not soon to be forgotten.

IN-JOY your path today!

“In the end, aggressors always destroy themselves, making way for others who know how to cooperate and get along. Life is much less a competitive struggle for survival than a triumph of cooperation and creativity.” - Fritjof Capra

I smile at the Face Book posts from some of my more aggressively Christian friends where they long for the “end”…the time when violence and harm will be replaced with peace, love and floating clouds crowded with harp-playing residents…

This and similar narratives are speaking to the pain that is felt and the fear brought to the surface by events such as the Boston bombing, the fertilizer plant explosion and other tragedies portrayed by the media.

The best solution is to get up (or pick up the remote) and shut off this fear-infused pollution of our daily world. This does not mean that we are then by default sticking our heads in the sand however it can mean that we are choosing to keep our personal world clean of the glorifying fear tactics of media.

Peace, love and allowing do not necessarily have to be reserved for nirvana. These virtues and attributes can be a part of a world that is also inhabited by those less conscious and more fear driven. To find the fine line of acceptance of the world we live in balanced with our ability to model the acceptance and allowing that provide our temporal “heaven”…that is the discipline that is worthy of our pursuit.

I am saddened by the events of the last few weeks…even more saddened by those in positions of authority and influence who have caved in to the fear and all too often profit from it. My daily intention is to shake off this miasma of fear and move into the paradise that I alone can create.

IN-JOY your day!

Seems like an appropriate topic for this time of year.

A good friend of mine shared a cute story on Face Book the other day that not only gave me reason to laugh, but also underscored a point in the magical way that only children and animals seem able to provide.

The story goes like this….

“Children’s Sermon:

A Baptist pastor was presenting a children’s sermon. During the sermon, he asked the children if they knew what the resurrection was. Now, asking questions during children’s sermons is crucial, but at the same time, asking children questions in front of a congregation can also be very dangerous. Having asked the children if they knew the meaning of the resurrection, a little boy raised his hand…….. The pastor called on him and the little boy said, “I know that if you have a resurrection that lasts more than four hours you are supposed to call the doctor.” It took over ten minutes for the congregation to settle down enough for the service to continue.”

On a more serious note…heart disease remains a serious health issue, in fact, much more serious than a body part needing “resurrected”! The drugs like Viagra that give this synthetic nitric oxide effect are dangerous in many situations…often in ways that are much less than funny.

The natural way to maintain…whether heart health or bedroom stamina…is by enhancing your body’s innate ability to provide nitric oxide. Called the most studied and most important signaling molecule discovered in the 20th century, nitric oxide is essential for cardiovascular health, proper brain function, inter-cellular signaling (and intra-cellular signaling for that matter), proper glucose tolerance…the list is very long. And of course the intervertebral disc requires good circulation and capillary function to maintain optimal water content and function. Good healthy levels of nitric oxide help keep our spine healthy, flexible and functional.

Want good health? Keep it UP with nitric oxide! (Health that is…) Eat plenty of organic, nutrient-rich green leafies….and supplement with powerful nitric oxide precursor supplements. And exercise of course to keep that blood moving for the shear effect I talk about in my seminar….

Come to one of my seminars on nutrition and nitric oxide….if you can’t find one near you, send a note to Parker Seminars and request that they schedule me!

IN-JOY your day and don’t forget to laugh…

“You can observe a lot just by watching.” – Yogi Berra

Springtime is the perfect opportunity to observe, not only with your eyes but with all the senses. The above quote is a silly reminder that too often we forget to open our eyes to the never ceasing parade of opportunities to enjoy the gifts of this life.

My walk this morning took me through the park where I could see the bright green new leaves on the chestnuts, a pair of nesting hawks, daffodils blooming…just a few of the gifts of joy which couldn’t help but bring a smile to my face.

Living in the city has revealed more to me as well. More often that not I will notice the gaze of those passing by firmly fixed to the pavement…or probably more often to the screen of their smart-phone. So much is missed when you forget to watch.

What can you observe today as you serve the fortunate that come through your door? Will you miss the gift of seeing the ease with which they move, the smile given to your receptionist or even the kind word that before was beyond their consciousness? Don’t allow yourself to miss what is given to you today. Open your eyes, ears and hearts to that which the Spirit has prepared for you.

Springtime is really the season of Thanksgiving for me.

IN-JOY your day today as you open yourself to the gifts of the day…

Go toward the light, the saying goes. When we are striving to share the light, does it serve us to stay in darkness?

I read a post on Face book last night (I was drawn to the medium in a weak moment) where Lyle Koca posted, “”The Chiropractic ADJUSTMENT is the best thing that has happened for nutrition” Dr. Dean Sottile!!! Enuf freakin said!!!”

Apparently a high fervor of chiropractic philosophy generated at the CalJam event in Orange County. Maybe a little context would be good to completely understand this quote, though it is likely that this is another example of over-the-top chiropractic allegiance.

I would definitely agree that those people who choose chiropractic care as a basis for good health and wellness would be able to more efficiently metabolize good nutrition, however if this comment is meant to imply that the chiropractic adjustment can compensate for poor or absent nutrition….I would beg to differ.

The best adjusted individual is not immune to nutrient deficiency. While it might be argued that the human body may be able to compensate longer for nutritional deficits when optimal nerve function is attained…the negative effects of Omega 6:3 imbalance, essential nutrient starvation and other issues cannot long be ignored.

The tone and vernacular of the above quote leads me to interpret that this is another attempt to compensate for nutritional ignorance with cult-like fervor. At the very time when other holistic practitioners are willing to embrace a more balanced understanding of the valuable service we provide humanity…we respond with behavior that would embarrass even the most “out of the box” mind.

Must we allow the fear of non-acceptance to encourage and perpetuate the flavor of cultish language? I saw this ad nauseam while a student at Life-Marietta…thankfully much of it has waned in the wake of the passing of the presidential torch, however there are still those in our profession that believe division and extremism must compensate for our perceived lack of acceptance.

We are entering an exciting time that could bring together the best understanding of nutrition to date and the highest yet acceptance of the principles and potential of chiropractic. Also, we could very well shoot ourselves in the foot and believe we are still in the dark ages of the “war” between medicine and chiropractic.

Hopefully saner mines will prevail….

IN-JOY the light,

Perry

P.S. Dean Sottile has since clarified his comment as “…The Chiropractic Adjustment is the best thing that ever happened for Vitamins.”

I read an article today about the surprising increase in the incidence of Alzheimer’s disease…now considered the 6th leading cause of death in the United States rising 68 percent between 2000 and 2010 according to this source cited by National Public Radio.

“It is an epidemic and currently there is no way to delay, prevent or cure it”. The frustration evident in this statement is similar to that seen in health “experts” confused and confounded by disorders such as cancer, heart disease and immune disorders.

This frustration is likely to remain as long as research is driven by conventional thinking. Albert Einstein famously said that “…no problem is solved by the same thinking (consciousness) that created it”.

This NPR article goes on to state that “Alzheimer’s causes damage to cells of the brain”. Is it possible (insert irony here) that maybe we have this a bit backward? Is Alzheimer’s really the “cause” or is Alzheirver’s really merely more that a collectively named condition in which there is damage to neural cells?

I would say the latter. It is known that in Alzheimer’s the DHA component of Omega 3 fatty acids are largely, or totally, absent. Could it be then that Alzheimer’s is the end result of nutritional abuse…now on such a grand scale that it will kill at such a rate to be considered the sixth leading cause of death in our society?

So where is the smoking gun? Some dis-ease named Alzheimer’s lurking behind the proverbial bush to devastate some unsuspecting citizen? Could it be that our food making machine has been so far derailed from anything close to whole food nutrition that our neural cells are being devastated not by some disease causing virus or germ but actually from the absence of the very nutrients that our nerve cells are screaming for?

Much of my focus, along with nitric oxide science for circulatory wellness, is targeted at health and wellness enhancement by utilizing highly bio-available forms of Vit. E tocotrienol fraction enhanced Omega 3′s. We are seeing such tremendous results, great anecdotal progress, AND the scientific community is beginning to wake up.

How long will it take for the media…and then the general wellness seeking public…to get on board? Hard to say.

In the meantime it “behooves” us…(had to use that word this week) to continue to focus on feeding our body the nutrition that makes healthy new cells. Our brain cells included.

Eat well today and remember…it is probably not enough to eat that extra serving of salmon or take that great-discipline saving tablet of Omega 3…the Omega 6:3 ratio has to be restored. This can only be done by not only adding the “good stuff” to our diet but also eliminating the “bad stuff”. And remember that the best source of Omega 3 is a diet rich in plant-source fatty acids. Our current “SAD” diet (heavily processed foods) cannot do this for us…even if we are supplementing with well-meaning intention (this is largely due to the overwhelming presence of Omega 6 fatty acids in manufactured “food”).

The diet must be totally transformed.

IN-JOY your healthy life!

One morning last week as I walked to my office here in downtown Seattle I passed, as I usually do, through the lobby of the Washington State Convention Center. As is my habit, I glanced at the reader board to see what event was taking place just a few steps from my elevator ride into the sky.

Turns out Seattle is hosting a Dialysis Conference. A forum for health care providers across the country to convene and discuss the latest and best ways to care for those dealing with the challenge of dialysis treatments. A major focus of the event is pediatric care.

Obesity, diabetes…even heart disease normally associated with much older segments of our population are increasingly an issue with kids who should be out running around the playground rather than shackled with life-limiting health problems. It is heart breaking to see these preventable disorders in the young, especially when we know that a country with our resources has the ability to largely eradicate these problems before they occur.

Wellness is a product of the environment our children are nurtured in. Nutrition, chiropractic, exercise….all of these are a form of loving care that young bodies, hearts and minds strive for.

“Our greatest natural resource is the minds of our children. “ — Walt Disney

The more I focus on the importance of nutrition in my practice the more I see that nutrition, like chiropractic, is a vital subject to be addressed with ALL of the people I serve…including the children of my practice members.

Share your knowledge and IN-JOY the results you see in those you serve,

“Television ads for cholesterol-lowering statin drugs may lead to over-diagnosis of high cholesterol and over-treatment with the drugs, according to a new study.” FRIDAY, March 8 (HealthDay News)

Ya think!!!

With use of pharmaceutical intervention continuing to rise and cardiovascular related diseases soaring, one sure wants to place the blame somewhere! But really…who held a gun to your head to watch the commercial for the drug, let alone turn the television on in the first place?

Accountability begins at home. Probably in the living room. Leaving the television off and even leaving the recliner to take that 45 minute brisk walk that you have been admonishing yourself about…all of this is personal accountability, discipline and lifestyle choices.

Sounds like tough love, however true love begins with you. How you take care of yourself, honor yourself and nurture your well-being. We all know that drugs do not impart health and wellness. No need to preach to the choir here. We also know that keeping up with the program, whether daily exercise, managing calorie intake vs. burn…is an “inside job”. No one else is to blame and no one else deserves to take the credit either.

Living in the city gives me the privilege of seeing so many people in a wide variety of situations. Obesity, fitness, confidence, despair…the variety is as diverse as the number of human expressions.

It is challenging to even bring the subject of physical, mental and spiritual fitness up without sounding like a nag. That of course is the challenge when placed in the position of health professional, counselor or let’s face it…being a parent or being involved in any relationship. So the best course I feel is that of being an example….so I’ll continue to work on that!

Time to go for another walk today!

IN-JOY your wellness on this fine day,
