Did Dr. Oz Help or Hurt you and the HCG Diet? . . . YES and NO.
By Beth Golden, PhD, ND The HCG Diet Expert™
As the HCG Diet continues to gain momentum and popularity, Dr. Oz can take a great deal of credit for increasing public awareness of the HCG Diet after the airing of his show about the Diet in February of 2011. His show increased medical doctors’ confidence in offering the HCG Diet and prescription HCG. His show also decreased the general consumers confidence in homeopathic hcg sales and reduced the amount of ‘webbers’ HCG websites found on the internet.
What he also created with his statement telling his viewers: ‘don’t buy the HCG ‘drops’ on the internet nor in health food stores, and ONLY use prescription injections from medical doctors’, was a fear among consumers of the dangers of the HCG Diet and a hypocritical message. Why do I say this? Because Dr. Oz’s wife used homeopathic HCG to diet, he uses homeopathic remedies for himself and, as evidenced in his daily shows, promotes natural wellness.
I’m also not sure he really understood the mechanics of the HCG Diet when interviewed last March. He was asked if he was concerned about women altering their hormones with hCG while on the diet and he responded if it worked he thought it was OK. If Dr. Oz really understood the HCG Diet, he would know it doesn’t alter hormonal levels during the HCG Diet.
What I wished he had promoted was for an HCG Dieter to only do the diet under the care and direction of a properly trained Health Care Professional.Possessing a medical license or any other license for that matter doesn’t qualify one to be a knowledgeable HCG Diet Coach. Training and education is necessary to learn any new skill.

Where in the world did the ‘rumor’ start that the HCG Diet makes your body think it is pregnant…?
WOW! This reminds me of the game we played in kindergarten.. someone said something and passed it down the line to each other and by the time it reached the other end…. the story was no where close to being what was said….
Of all of the things I have heard people say when trying to explain the concept of the HCG Diet, like dangers of the hcg diet … this one is one of the most FAR FETCHED things I have EVER heard…
OK, let’s go back to some VERY basics about the HCG Diet….. before the media and the Doctors I see in the news make an even further mess of trying to explain it!
The extremely SMALL amount of hCG injections and/or the homeopathic hCG work to better balance the malfunction of the hypothalamus. When the reduced fat, low protein diet is used in conjunction with the hCG injections or hCG homeopathic, a person is JUST on the verge of protein deficiency. This in turn signals the body to tap into the abnormal fat reserves that are there to keep us alive in a “starvation” situation… now that the hypothalamus is being ‘nudged’ just a bit to function more normally, while on the HCG Diet, the body begins and continues to utilize the fat reserves to maintain “survival’… and does it very nicely, I might add.
THAT’S the reason people lose all the fat they can’t get rid of otherwise…
For goodness sakes, the HCG Diet does MANY things, but DOES NOT TRICK YOUR BODY INTO THINKING IT’S PREGNANT… I have heard this on the news recently, in addition to the statement that the ‘HCG Diet stimulates a woman’s ovaries to make estrogen’. That right there tells me they have no idea what the guidelines are of this diet are. There is not enough hCG administered to stimulate the ovaries. THAT’S THE POINT of IT!.. it’s NOT being used as a pre-cursor to hormones.
… for goodness sakes.. where in the world is all this BAD information coming from!!
The media and Dr. OZ need to read up on the actions of this diet because he did not deny the comment about it stimulating a woman’s ovaries to make more estrogen… Get with it Dr. Oz!!

What great debates all over the internet about the HCG diet. I love it!
Isn’t it interesting that the people who have success with this diet and have nothing but good things to say about it, are the same people who have failed miserably otherwise.
With that said, wouldn’t it be nice to support these people instead of pounding them into the ground trying to convince them this isn’t the diet for them?
With the rate of morbidly obese people in North America increasing every day, I would think we should be dancing in the street celebrating the overwhelming success so many are experiencing and cheering them on for long term success!
In a recent post from an HCG Dieter, he mentioned he was weak while on the hcg diet. That’s nothing more than electrolyte imbalance and people snap right out of it with correct re-mineralization. That’s even more reason that the HCG Diet should be done with the coaching of a correctly trained practitioner.
The oddity I have noticed about the people who are lashing out at these successful HCG Dieters seem to be medical doctors who are some of the same people who prescribe appetite suppressants and give B-12 shots so people can lose weight by mere starvation. So if we need to be bashing ANY diet, it’s this foolish behavior of recommending starvation and a detrimental drug to keep them from eating..
Now THAT’s what we should all be blogging about . . . not bashing people who have found a diet that works!
I personally think we should respect each person’s individual right to chose this diet or not and what gives anyone the right to tell anyone they shouldn’t be doing a diet that works.

According to the Journal of Biological Chemistry in a report release January 7, 2011:
RESVERATROL INCREASES BENEFICIAL FAT HORMONE ADIPONECTIN; COULD BENEFIT OBESITY, DIABETES and AGING”
Wow.. that’s a pretty impressive statement if I do say so myself!
Resveratrol has received a great deal of attention over the past year as being touted for many beneficial things. Looks like we can now add to the list: Obesity control!
According to researchers at UT Health Science Center in San Antonio, ” Resveratrol, a compound in grapes, displays antioxidant and other positive properties.
In a study published this week, they describe a novel way in which resveratrol exerts these beneficial health effects by stimulating a hormone, called adiponectin, that is derived from cells that manufacture and store fat. The researchers confirmed the finding in cells and animal models.
What gets my attention in their report is that it seems to have a positive effect on insulin resistance.
Now how does that differ from the way hCG is hypothesized to work?
hCG is hypothesized to positively signal the hypothalamus in regard to lipogenesis and lipolysis. What this means is the amount of fat the body is currently programmed to store, slows down, and the amount of fat the body should be releasing based on “energy’ in-take”, speeds up. This is one of the reasons people lose weight at such extraordinary rate on the hCG diet, if done correctly!
My clinical experience with POST HCG-DIETERS in regard to insulin resistance, is that additional supplements and/or homeopathics must be used during and after the hCG diet to effectively address insulin resistance. So this means resveratrol has the potential to address anti-obesity, anti-insulin resistance and anti-aging properties all in one and could be added to the list as an effective adjunct.
This is exiting to me!
Back in November I started using a resveratrol based juice that contains the patented bio-collagen Type II, Chondroitin Sulfate and hylauronic acid. I personally have been using it to treat my arthritic thumbs based on the internal benefits these ingredients have and the scientific backing it has in repairing joints. Having tried everything over the past 12 years from lasers to the latest pain cream on the market, nothing has ever given me any relief.
Now if you know me very well, you know I use myself as an experiment with supplements and therapies first, or how else could I testify if something works.
Up until last week, I have been telling everyone that juice is doing absolutely nothing for my thumb joints. About a month ago I even stopped using it for awhile. However last week I hit that “magic 6 week marker” and since then I truly am amazed the improvement I have started to get and the reduction of pain in my thumb joints.
For Chiropractors, I think this is going to be a home run for their patients. It’s not a miracle over-night cure, but if I have seen improvement after only 6 weeks with the problem I have had for 12 years, (and didn’t even take it every day!) the potential that this products may have to help rebuild joints, not to mention its anti-aging effects to plump up skin, is revolutionary!
Goes to show you, never give up on looking for a cure!
You can read more about the patented Bio-Cell technology comprised of collagen Type II, Chondroitin Sulfate and hylauronic acid
You can read more about the company that owns the patent and has combined it with the benefits proven from Resveratrol. As I mentioned above, I have only been using this product for my own personal use and am just now understanding the potential benefits I believe it has!
If it is something you think you would like to try or learn more about, please feel free to email me.

DR ATW Simeons
The BEGINNING of weight loss with hCG began in the 50s by an endocrinologist, Dr. ATW Simeons. At that time the only form of hCG available was injections by prescription. Then in the 60′s, Dr. Daniel Belluscio from Argentina, began experimenting with mixing the prescription hCG with liquids to be taken sublingually instead of injections. That pretty much is all that has been available for HCG Dieters until around 2007, and then the concept of homeopathic hCG came on the scene.
In just a few short years, the hCG prescription market has come forth with troches, creams, pills other oral forms of hCG. The homeopathic hCG industry now includes multiple ingredients, varying potencies, different dosage directions and a plethora of on-line stores. It changes so fast; I am astounded how fast things continue to change from one day to the next! Seems like every day I see a new website, a new name of a homeopathic hCG, a new blog, a new press release or something totally new in regard to the HCG Diet! Along with these things, website competition is becoming fierce, big named retail outlets are now offering hCG and more and more brokers continue to pop up selling private labeled homeopathic hCG looking for more outlets.
The HCG Diet industry is doing EXACTLY what I predicted in 2007 that would happen. When “the word” gets out: the HCG Diet will “over-take” everything that has ever been available for weight loss……and it’s only just begun!
To give you an example of my personal experience with has happened in the Chiropractic field a little more than a year ago in regard to the level of knowledge about HCG Diets, we vended at the FCA in Orlando Florida in August of 2009 marketing our HCG Weight Loss System. (Remember I began offering HCG in my medi-spa in early 2007 and had already had over 2 and 1/2 years experience). Because I saw the incredible results the HCG Diet produced when done correctly, I had developed a complete HCG Weight Loss System that didn’t need a prescription and could be available to the masses in Chiropractors and Naturopaths offices across the country. We knew we’d be received with open arms at the convention and all the Doctors would be ecstatic to have a complete HCG System already proven and ready to go!……… WRONG!
Much to our surprise, hardly ANY Chiropractor who came to our booth knew about hCG for weight loss. We spent about 98% of our time just trying to explain the whole Simeons hCG diet concept and then who WE WERE and the value of what we were offering. We met a lot of nice folks, ran into some previous acquaintances, but in regard to selling the value of adding our HCG Weight Loss System into their practice, it was a BUST!
Since then, I formulated and clinically tested additional HCG homeopathic remedies on patients, including another HCG Diet remedy that focuses on AFTER the HCG Diet to keep the weight off. We’ve also kept up our advertising, kept up our vending at the conventions and finally over the past 6 months, the shift is happening.
NOW what I see in the market is this “frenzie” of hCG Diet activity caused by the internet, It is creating even more chaos and confusion. People looking to DO the HCG Diet are even more confused and practitioners wanting to bring the HCG Diet into their practice are confused too. . . and rightfully SO! There are on-line “coaches” popping up who are ‘authorities’ because they lost 20 pound in 21 days recently! With what is going on out there, I think Dr. Simeons might roll over in his grave! HA!
MY POINT?
It’s hard enough just to learn how to effectively take a patient from start to finish on an HCG Diet. I spent 12 months perfecting the HCG Diet protocol with 1000’s of clients and 6 months proving it through other professional offices across the country. When I see what is going on out on the internet, I FIRMLY believe that the practitioner who invests his time and money in proper education and training, becomes well informed, is the one who is going to survive this wave.
When a Practitioner asks me “How am I going to compete with what’s on the internet”?, I tell him/her, “That’s not your market!” Your market is your patients who believe and trust in you. If YOU begin offering the HCG Diet from your office, they’re going to EXPECT and BELIEVE you know what you’re doing and come to you versus buying on the internet! . . . . . Otherwise, you’re just ‘selling hCG’ and they WILL go to the net.
You’ve built your entire business based on TRUST!
Your patients TRUST you know what you are doing. Please don’t let them down!
- 70% of this country is FAT and needs the HCG Diet!
- 70% of your CURRENT CLIENTS are ‘FAT’ and need the HCG Diet.
- Learn how to effectively and correctly oversee the HCG Diet, learn how to do the diet in groups, learn how to price, learn a referral program and you’ll have all the business you need!
The HCG Diet has the potential to offer extraordinary results when done correctly!… Get trained, get informed and BECOME THE LEADER OF THE PACK!

Believe it or not, most people can do the HCG Diet, however, these are the cautions I recommend. Do not offer the HCG Diet to anyone with: CANCER, TYPE I DIABETES or EPILEPSY nor a PREGNANT FEMALE. I also would not recommend the HCG Diet to someone who is: MENTALLY CHALLENGED, HIGHLY MEDICATED, DEPRESSED or someone who follows certain types of VEGETARIANISM.
With that said, let me add a little more information for further clarification.
CANCER PATIENTS: If one of your clients has “HAD” cancer in the past, I would recommend providing adequate HCG Diet information for them to take to his/her oncologist. If your Client receives written medical clearance, technically they are now under a medical umbrella. This should allow you to feel comfortable to let them start the diet. Of course during the course of the HCG Diet, refer your client back to their doctor if they experience anything OTHER THAN positive results.
TYPE I DIABETES: Since these folks are insulin dependent, they are not the best candidates for the “Less Experienced” HCG Diet Coach, or someone without training on the various situations that arise with people on the HCG Diet.
EPILEPSY: I personally worked with a 19 year old male with epilepsy, but it was in tandem with my medi-spa medical doctor. From the standpoint of what your professional liability might be if he/she experienced a seizure while on the HCG Diet, remember that you might be held liable and it would be a personal decision if you want to assume the risk.
PREGNANT FEMALE: Surprisingly enough, I have had quite a few people, including Practitioners, ask me if someone who is pregnant can do the HCG Diet. A pregnant female should not be doing any type of weight reduction program while pregnant nor while nursing.
MENTALLY CHALLENGED: There are people who have trouble following directions and understanding information. I classify these people as ‘mentally challenged’. My personal experience has been that they are not good candidates for the HCG Diet due to these issues and a high failure rate.
HIGHLY MEDICATED: These are people who are often times on pain killers, anti-depressants and other types of behavior modification medications. My personal experience has been that they are not good candidates for the HCG Diet due to these issues and a high failure rate. Also, add to the mix that some medications encourage weight gain, which creates an even stronger uphill battle.
DEPRESSED: Based on my observations and experience over an 18 month time frame in 2007-2008 with HCG Dieters, I’d like to point out 3 things about prescription HCG and/or homeopathic HCG “drops” with amino acids: (1) mild depression sometimes improves; however (2) mild depression SURFACES; and (3) underlying severe depression becomes exaggerated. Therefore, the HCG Diet products I developed are carefully formulated with ingredients to effectively addresses many underlying functional imbalances and have eliminated these problems.
VEGETARIANS: There are so many types of vegetarians. As long as someone eats fish, they should do just fine on the HCG Diet and on the maintenance plan. However, the vegetarians who return to soy based products as their main protein staple, won’t do well long term with maintained weight loss.

THAT’S A TERRIFIC QUESTION
There seems to be so many ‘particulars’ about the HCG Diet, but there really aren’t…. a “STEAK DAY” is a day that a “Post-HCG Dieter” consumes as much non-caloric liquids as they like and then early evening eats a large steak and chooses from an apple, a tomato or a green salad.
This “steak-day” needs to be adhered to AFTER the HCG Diet when someone’s weight has EXCEEDED 2 pounds over his/her final weight loss in order to maintain the loss.
They MUST make the correction that very day with a “steak day” or the excess weight will turn into EXCESS FAT and they will begin to ignore the weight gain and eventually put a pound on here or a pound there…. and then say they couldn’t keep the weight off. This correction day cannot wait a day or two and this is one of the biggest mistakes I see people make after completing the HCG Diet.
Summer of ’07, I lost a lot of weight summer and when weighing EVERYDAY and following this protocol, the lost weight NEVER returns. If you or your patients are doing the HCG Diet, follow this simple “steak day” and it’ll work for you too!

Filed under HCG and Weight Loss, HCG Diet and Massages
Professionals and HCG Dieters ask me repeatedly why massages are forbidden on the HCG Diet. This is a terrific question since massages are generally a key therapy offered in Chiropractic Clinics!
Information about massages on the HCG Diet originated from ATW Simeons, MD, the creator of the HCG Diet. In his 1964 manuscript called POUNDS and INCHES, he was adamant about people not having massages while on the HCG Diet but it has been taken out of context.
Dr Simeons was referring to the insanity of people trying to eliminate fat through violent manipulation and kneading of body tissue! I am confident that he knew the therapeutic value of increased circulation and lymphatic drainage and would NEVER be opposed to ‘healthy’ massages for this reason. When you read the entire passage of his reference to massages, it is apparent he was not against therapeutic massages, only the kind that can cause bruising and tissue harm!
Knowing the value of therapeutic massages and increased circulation and lymphatic drain, I RECOMMEND massages while on the HCG Diet to assist in better removal of toxic waste. The only problem is that massage oil contains absorbable oils and CANNOT BE USED BY THE MASSAGE THERAPIST while on the HCG Diet NOR BY THE HCG DIETER. External absorbable oil reacts just like consuming oil while on the diet and will stop weight loss.
In my quest over the years for HCG Dieters to have the best of everything at their finger tips (no pun intended) before, during and after the HCG Diet . . . . I discovered there were no quality, oil free skincare products on the market.
In 2008, I began formulating the only oil-free HCG Diet approved skincare body product line for the Dieter. I also
wanted these products to be good for the skin and free of toxic paraben preservatives and synthetic fragrances. During this process, I also decided to include in the line an oil-free massage oil for several VERY specific reasons:
(1) it allows HCG Dieters to continue massages or BEGIN having massages while on the Diet without compromising weight loss;
(2) it eliminates Massage therapists from losing clients because of the oil restriction who become HCG Dieters;
(3) it allows Massage therapists to do the HCG Diet and continue to give massages without having to wear gloves;
(4) it offers the savvy, business-minded Chiropractor the ability to advertise “Oil-Free HCG Diet Approved Massages” and
(a) bring in new clients
(b) create an additional revenue source from sales on the Diet skincare products
(c) earn extra income from on-line product sales through the skincare’s website affiliate program, and
(d) . . . if marketed correctly, these new clients will become patients for the Professional’s other services too!
(5) IT’S A WIN – WIN situation for EVERYONE!

Hey, this is a new twist!! With all this talk about hCG “fixing” the hypothalamus gland, this is a new one on me!
Someone asked me if hCG has a ‘negative effect” on the pituitary gland. Not sure where this is stemming from, no pun intended… but with all the questions I have been asked over the past 4 years about hCG and dieting… it’s actually refreshing when someone comes up with a new one!
So let’s rationally think this through……. we know hCG has a positive effect on the hypothalamus gland. . . and the hypothalamus “signals’ the pituitary gland to function efficiently…. so doesn’t it stand to reason that it would ‘help’ the function of both?
If you’re offering hCG Dieting in your clinic….. expect to get unexpected questions like this one. Be ready with your answer!

Filed under HCG and Weight Loss
Not only is there a lot to learn about how to correctly offer the HCG Diet, but sorting through the plethora of all the different KINDS of hCG can be quite a maze!
What I have personally witnessed over the past 4 years, and even more recently with Professionals who are launching out there to add HCG weight loss to their practice, is a significant lack of interest in taking training and becoming truly proficient in the HCG Diet. I see more and more companies marketing to professionals touting exorbitant financial figures as to “how much money they can make” on their patients with the HCG Diet. Don’t get me wrong, we all need to offer services that will show a profit, but unless an HCG Diet Practitioner knows about the different forms of hCG, how to effectively offer the HCG Diet and how to handle tough cases, I believe they are facing a 6 – 12 month learning curve and will get gobbled up by practitioners who ARE getting well trained and know what they’re doing. . . . . and they risk losing their patients to some “webber” who knows more than they do about the HCG Diet and offers effective, on-line HCG diet coaching!
As I have previously mentioned in my blogs, I personally found that using “just hCG” (prescription and homeopathic) along with the original Simeons’ hCG protocol from the 50′s did not pan-out to be the best plan of attack for about 30% of my clients during the HCG Diet nor the best for long term results. We spent 18 months experimenting with all sorts of products, diet changes, office visit options, pricing and discounting to finally end up with the best HCG Diet protocol, including the after care and a patient referral system.
I think the lack of education in the industry right now among professionals stems from the promise of the financial gain I mentioned before and the ‘simplicity’ of the plan these companies represent, along with the fact that homeopathic hCG remedies sold by manufacturing companies are not based on actual patients or clinical results. For the most part, their remedies are clones of the original hCG product manufactured by Mediral from 2008 and contain a couple of amino acids or an additional B vitamin and thyroid or adrenal support. Some companies are also changing the delivery forms or the potencies of the hCG, but I disagree with a lot of the potencies I see in these products and the administration directions. I would be very interested in the rationale behind what I’ve seen.
So to me, it makes sense that there is so much confusion today from the Professionals’ and lay person’s perspective in regard to trying to learn about the HCG DIET. I find Practitioners beginning to offer hCG Weight Loss generally know less than the population as a whole about HCG Dieting and this can put that Professional in a very compromising situation and under-mind his/her “authority” in the clinical setting. My goal is to ‘armor’ Professionals with adequate education to help sort out the confusion so they can withstand the barrage of questions from their patients about the diet; the difference in formulas; the prescriptions; and administration.
I encourage everyone considering offering the HCG Diet or who is currently offering the HCG Diet to get educated and trained afford yourself the opportunity to have the most extraordinary HCG diet business beyond your wildest dreams!
