		<description>The problem is that what most health professionals regard as &quot;behaviour modification&quot; is merely short term behavioral change which disappears almost as soon as the client has finished treatment.

Just look at CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy) which many experts regard as the &quot;gold standard&quot; for behavioural change, and yet which meta studies show to be no more effective than placebo.  This is a big shock for many psychologists who swear by it and who&#039;ve invested a great deal of time, money, and effort to become skilled in it.

Also, while negative thoughts or attitudes may certainly play a part in overweight and obesity, they&#039;re not the whole picture.  Nothing like it.

Similarly, education and support always need to be an important component of any weight loss program, but unless the client changes his/her natural preferences for certain foods, and unless they embrace a regular physical activity PURELY FOR PLEASURE, they will not sustain the changes.

In fact our health department statistics tell us that close to 98% of people will regain the weight.

Yes, behavioural modification is an essential part of any weight loss program, but clinicians need to be very wary of using band-aids instead of proven methods.</description>

		<description>I cannot agree more how important and yet underestimated the role behaviour modification plays for a successful and sustainable weight-loss undertaking. 
As humans, with cognitive and emotive gifts we actually have the power to be healthy, nurture healthy families, live happy lives and grow harmonious societies on the corners of the world we live in. 
The mistake dieters often make when trying yet another dieting programme is lack of recognition that he/she is:
1.	a unique individual ,hence a template diet for Oprah Winfrey or Susanne Somers may not work for him/her
2.	has specific  personal  health issues
3.	 comes from different culture with its practices
4.	His/her food preferences may vary  from within the culture/religion 
5.	 a multi-faceted individual with distinctive attitudes which are reflected in his/her behaviour 

To the point, our attitudes make us fat! Change the negative attitudes about healthful eating, and Viola! We will see some positive results.</description>
