Officials deem September ‘Discover Wellness’ month

Government officials from New York and California have dubbed September “Discover Wellness Month,” and wellness professionals nationwide will hold events to celebrate wellness throughout the month.

According to Bob Hoffman, DC, co-author with Jason Deitch, DC, of [ITAL]Discover Wellness — How Staying Healthy Can Make You Rich. [/ITAL], Discover Wellness month is a national campaign to address the underlying cause of America’s healthcare crisis and to raise awareness and encourage participation of all Americans to learn more about what each of us can do to experience greater health and abundant wealth.

“Discover Wellness Month” resolutions have been made by:  

• New York: State Sen. Carl Marcellino, Oyster Bay (5th Dist); State Sen. Frank Padavan of Bellerose (11th Dist.) and Mayor Peter Bee, Garden City.

• California: U.S. Rep. Ed Royce, Fullerton (40th Dist.); U.S. Rep. John Campbell, Newport Beach (48th Dist.); U.S. Rep. Darrell E. Issa, Vista (49th Dist.); U.S. Rep. Susan A. Davis, San Diego (53rd Dist.); Mayor Jim Dear, Carson; Mayor Lesa Heebner, Solana Beach; and Mayor Claude Lewis, Carlsbad.

In addition to the resolutions, the month will be celebrated by special events and awards sponsored by participating wellness professionals, according to Hoffman. Participating professionals can sponsor a number of events, such as:

• Mr. & Mrs. Fitness Day;
• Employee ergonomic workstation evaluations;
• Interoffice flexibility contests;
• Writing contests;
• Free professional exercise equipment demonstrations;
• Taste-testing, nutrition education; and
• Free posture analyses.
